The IIT Colleges in India were formed with the objective of creating a talented pool of trained scientists and engineers who could contribute towards the economic and social development of the country.
The IIT's are autonomous engineering institutions that are governed by the rules and regulations laid down by the All India Council of Technical Education ( AICTE) established in 1945. The IIT colleges in India are the most preferred institutes for the study of technology and science. Declared as "institutions of national importance" by the Institutes of Technology Act, 1961 the IIT colleges in India are the dream of every aspiring Indian engineer and scientist.

There were 7 IITs in the beginning , which are, in order of establishment,

  • IIT Kharagpur in Kharagpur (1950)
  • IIT Bombay in Mumbai (1958),
  • IIT Madras in Chennai (1959),
  • IIT Kanpur in Kanpur (1959),
  • IIT Delhi in New Delhi (1961)
  • IIT Guwahati in Guwahati (1994) and
  • IIT Roorkee in Roorkee (1847; as IIT 2001).

In addition to the seven IITs, the Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 2010 added nine new institutes to the list. Of these, eight are new institutes, in order of establishment,

  • IIT Ropar in Rupnagar (2008),
  • IIT Bhubaneswar in Bhubaneswar (2008),
  • IIT Gandhinagar in Gandhinagar (2008),

  • IIT Patna in Patna (2008),
  • IIT Rajasthan in Rajasthan (2008),
  • IIT Mandi in Mandi (2009) and
  • IIT Indore in Indore (2009).
  • The ninth is Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University (IT-BHU), which is currently a faculty under the administration of Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, which is to be named "Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University), Varanasi"

About Indian Institute of Technology’s Joint Entrance Examination (IIT JEE)

In order to seek admission to IIT , Indian Institute of Technology Joint Entrance Examination (popularly known as IIT-JEE or just JEE) is conducted and referred as the  one of the most prestigious exams conducted at all India level.  IITs are envisaged to be one of the most difficult schools to get admitted into, owing to the tough and uniquely designed entrance exams conducted by them. All inclusive there are 10,000 seats in IIT and every year there are approximately 5lacs aspirants and these aspirant are continuously increasing year on year. The statistics indicates that the success ratio for qualifying is just 2%. Hence the competition to crack the competitive exam and get into IITs is day by day getting ferocious.

Pattern of the IIT JEE

  • IIT JEE is a single - stage objective type examination .
  • It consists of  two papers of three hours duration each .
  • The JEE is designed to test the comprehension & analytical ability of the aspirants.
  • Both papers, Paper-1 and Paper-2 have three separate sections on Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics.
  • All questions of Objective Type,
  • Optical mark recognition answer sheets are being adopted since 2006

Eligibility for the IIT JEE

  • Candidates appearing in (10+2) or equivalent qualifying examination, must secure at least 60%(55% for SC/ST and PD) marks in aggregate in their respective Board Examination.
  •  A student can have only two attempts to write the JEE  in the year in which he or she passes the XIIth standard examination and/or in the following year.
  • Candidates who join any of the IITs, IT-BHU, Varanasi, and ISM, Dhanbad through JEE will not be permitted to appear for JEE in future

Cracking IIT JEE

JEE is a tough nut to crack. It is purely meritocracy. Meticulous, systematic and sustainable preparation with determination is the pre-requisite for JEE. JEE is not an exam to experiment. Cracking JEE needs a rigorous preparation of all the subjects at par, since each subject has qualifying cut off marks.

There are few points the aspirants have  to take in to consideration while preparing for IIT JEE

  • No shortcut to hard work : The only way to become successful is to work hard for it. Rigorous and disciplined routine practice is must.
  • Right direction for your hard work:Hard work done without any direction may increase the chances of the work being wasted . The effort must have direction with an aim to attain the concept clarity. Understanding and learning with right test taking techniques shall assist in scoring.
  • Disciplined and systematic approach towards study:  One should be very organized in his or her studies. Decide one pattern of study that suits you and then follow it stringently for two years without taking a break.
  •  Consistent preparation as well as performance: One should be very regular in studying and must put a minimum of 8-10 hrs study everyday consistently in a much disciplined manner. The parents also must look in and jointly its to be ensured that the academic performance of the student not only to be consistent but its always to try and work towards to see that  the performance after each test must go up .This would definitely impart a huge self confidence to the student. The sign of a performing student is to see that the performance graph should be slowly and steadily moving upward only.
  • Very strong concept building:In order to put in the above suggested hours of study everyday its but essential that you have to enjoy studying, which is only possible provided you understand. The understanding is only feasible if your concepts are very clear and if not then you get those clarity under the right coach by appropriate problem solving and more and more such problem solving. IIT JEE is based on purely concepts and their applications in realistic life situations. So if your concepts are not very strong it will be very difficult to understand the questions resulting in difficulty in solving them. Thus to really enjoy IIT JEE preparation and also giving exam your concepts have to be very strong.
  • Speed with accuracy:For cracking IIT JEE it is very important to have speed with accuracy while writing the paper, because generally papers are lengthy and tricky. Accuracy is required so as to avoid –ve marking and thus reducing loss. Speed is achieved only by practicing more and more number of questions. Accuracy can be achieved by paying full concentration in the classroom as well as while doing self study and writing papers.
  • Thorough analysis of subjects, topics and tests:Always build in a habit of self analysis. Analyze your performance question by question, topic by topic in details in order to evaluate your own strength and weaknesses. By doing subject analysis you will know that you are strong in which subject and weak in which. Accordingly give more time for weak one. Similarly topic wise analysis will help you in deciding what topics should be practiced more. Test analysis if the most important aspect of preparation. Because by analyzing tests only you will come to know that whether you have understood the subjects well or not.
  • Positive attitude: As iit jee is very competitive one has to have strong positive approach towards the whole process of preparation. Negativity will lead to nothing but frustration and failure in spite of having potential.
  • Burning desire to achieve target:Lastly the most important is your own desire to achieve the target. If you have burning desire to do something then god is always there to help you in achieving your goal. So finally there is no looking back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And hence only focused and determined students opt for IIT JEE preparations.
